West Dunbartonshire Council launches a month long programme of Eco Events and Promotions raising awareness of environmental issues and asking residents of West Dunbartonshire to “Think Global and Act Local”. Download Events Calendar

This is the first of many planned environmental awareness events and is an open invitation to a free showing of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” at The Denny Civic Theatre in Dumbarton this Tuesday, 20th of May at 18.15hrs followed by West Dunbartonshire’s Chief Executive, David McMillan and Council Leader, Iain Robertson will be signing Scotland’s Declaration for Climate Change to reiterate their commitment to tackle the causes and effect to climate change in the local area.

Council Leader Iain Robertson, whose fourth grandchild is due in July and Chief Executive, David McMillan has just become a grandfather for the seventh time, in discussion on the responsibility that the West Dunbartonshire Council has on environmental issues and further reflecting on their personal responsibility, David McMillan reflected “Let’s face it, with the increased research and awareness into environmental issues,, we now know that we don’t inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our grandchildren.”

The Green Dream programme kicked off with a visit from James McCallum, 29, Bronze Medal Winner in Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006 and current Title Holder of The British National Circuit Race Championships and who cycles for Team Scotland to highlight West Dunbartonshire Council’s Clean Air Campaign to encourage drivers to switch off their engines while they are stationary …or potentially face a £20 fine for idling while parked.
